10 demands for a strong games location in Germany
  • Update of the German games industry’s 10 demands to politicians
  • Annual Report of the German Games Industry 2024 published

Berlin, 13 August, 2023 – game – The German Games Industry Association today presented its 10 demands to politicians for strengthening Germany as a games location, which are included in the new Annual Report of the German Games Industry 2024, also available today. In view of the developments in the games industry in recent months, the focus must be on the long-term promotion of Germany as a games location. The first demand was therefore divided into three areas: the establishment of competitive games funding, a comprehensive concept for location marketing and the development of an infrastructure for games development in the form of games hubs with incubation and accelerator programmes. Other demands focus on the need for skilled labour, youth protection and esports, among other things.

‘The statements from all parties in parliament are very clear: Germany should become a strong games location. However, the necessary measures must finally be implemented more sustainably, quickly and ambitiously. With our 10 demands to politicians, we in the games industry are clearly stating which course must now be set by politicians,’ says Felix Falk, Managing Director of game – Association of the German Games Industry. ‘The new Annual Report of the German Games Industry also provides a comprehensive overview of video game players, the games market and the games industry in Germany. For the first time, it also includes interviews with experts, for example on the protection of minors in Germany and environmental protection.’

The demands at a glance:

  1. Promote Germany as a game location for the long term
  2. Reinforce Germany’s commitment to game specialists
  3. Strengthen games in science, research, teaching and training
  4. Use games to enhance learning, in school and throughout life
  5. Youth protection legislation: modern, convergent and internationally compatible
  6. Provide investment certainty, create value
  7. Preserve games as a cultural heritage
  8. Provide digital infrastructure for all
  9. No space for haters, trolls or piracy: bring security authorities up to speed digitally
  10. 10. Seize the opportunities created by esports: talent, tournaments and the public interest
