BPjM LogoA computer or video game that has not been given an age rating by the USK may be indexed by the Federal Review Board for Media Harmful to Minors (BPjM). Indecent or extremely violent content or content that encourages violence, crime or racial hatred are the primary reasons for indexing a game.
Minors are to be prevented from gaining access to indexed games. Advertising, reviews and public sale of these games are prohibited by law. In serious cases, such as games that glorify National Socialism, contain pornographic content or violate human dignity, the media containing the games may be confiscated. The German Criminal Code (StGB) provides the legal framework here.
