International study ‘Power of Play 2025’ on the positive effects of games on mental health

The international study, ‘Power of Play’, examined the positive effects of computer and video games through a representative survey of gamers worldwide. These effects ranged from promoting mental health and fostering social connections to developing skills such as creativity and critical thinking. This was the first time the study was conducted in 2023.

Based on the experiences of over 24,000 players from 21 countries, the new global Power of Play report, conducted by AudienceNet on behalf of the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) in collaboration with international industry associations, highlights how play has become an increasingly powerful force for well-being, learning and social connection. In Europe, the initiative is coordinated by Video Games Europe (VGE). We as game are a member of VGE and contribute the perspective of the German games industry.
