Sie sprachen am 21. August vor Hunderten Gästen, Journalisten und Gamern zum Start des weltgrößten Events rund um Computer- und Videospiele.
In ihren Reden unterstrichen sie die stark gewachsene Relevanz der Games-Branche für den Digital- und Wirtschaftsstandort Deutschland. Digitalstaatsministerin Bär stellte in ihrer Rede die Einführung einer Games-Förderung auf Bundesebene in Aussicht, wie sie bereits im Regierungsprogramm von CDU, CSU und SPD vereinbart wurde. Zwischen den Reden der politischen Ehrengäste wurden erstmals während der gamescom Eröffnung Weltpremieren neuer Computer- und Videospiele gezeigt.
