Capcom and Travian Games join the BIU

Berlin, 5 April 2017 – The BIU, the German Games Industry Association, recently welcomed two new members: Capcom Entertainment Germany GmbH and Travian Games GmbH. Travian Games joined the BIU on 1 April. The Munich-based developer and publisher is known for, among other things, browser games like ‘Travian Kingdoms’, ‘Rail Nation’ and ‘Goal United’. Travian Games employs around 400 people in Germany – at its head office in Munich and at its two subsidiaries, North Works in Hamburg and Bright Future in Cologne. The German branch of Capcom also joined the BIU on 1 April. Capcom, a developer and publisher based in Osaka, Japan, has been developing and distributing games for PCs, consoles, handheld devices, smartphones and tablets worldwide for over 30 years. Its best-known games include ‘Resident Evil’, ‘Street Fighter’ and ‘Monster Hunter’. The German branch is additionally responsible for marketing and distributing Capcom titles in over 40 other markets.

‘We are delighted to welcome Capcom and Travian – two more very successful games companies,’ says Felix Falk, Managing Director of the BIU. ‘Together we will work to improve conditions for game developers in Germany and to further strengthen the position of gamescom as the biggest business platform in the European games industry.’

‘We welcome the BIU’s efforts to improve conditions for game developers in Germany,’ says Lars Janssen, CEO of Travian Games. ‘Its forceful lobbying for production support and the ProTalent initiative in response to the need for specialists are particularly important for us as a German-based game developer. We look forward to playing an active part in these and other areas in the future. Important policies need to be put in place for the games industry, and the BIU has restructured itself in 2017 for this purpose. This is something we want to support.’

‘Capcom attaches great importance to BIU membership,’ says Stuart Turner, COO of Capcom Entertainment Europe. ‘We have been following the association’s work closely for a number of years, and in the last few years have been particularly impressed. For Capcom it is important to work together with industry associations. We want to help further develop the German market for computer and video games. We also want to play a bigger role in supporting gamescom, Europe’s largest games trade fair, beyond our participation as an exhibitor. Games – now including those with content aimed primarily at core gamers – are reaching more people than ever before. This is the right time for us to be joining the association.’
