Berlin, 1 March 2017 – For the first time, the Goethe-Institut Boston, the Cologne Game Lab and BIU.Dev are cooperating to bring independent developers from Germany to PAX East. The festival for gamers is being held in Boston from 10 to 12 March. The German game developers will present their games at the stand of the Goethe-Institut Boston in the PAX East exhibition area (booth number 20049). This collaboration is taking place in the context of the Transatlantic Gaming Summit 2017, which is organised by the Goethe-Institut Boston. The aim of the summit is to promote exchange between German and American game developers, including at the academic level. Central to the exchange are questions as to how the limits to games can be expanded and how innovative gaming concepts can best be marketed.

‘Games are an exciting medium at the interface of art, commerce and communication. They are an especially well-suited means of promoting young people’s interest in cultural content,’ says Christoph Mücher, Director of the Goethe-Institut Boston. ‘With our project Transatlantic Gaming Summit, we’re bringing leading actors from Germany and the USA together and encouraging them each to take a closer look at the world of games on the other side of the Atlantic.’

Prof. Björn Bartholdy, Director of Cologne Game Lab: ‘The Goethe-Institut Boston is working hard to support the activities of young German game developers and their exchange with developers on the East Coast! At PAX East, the institute offers us the opportunity to present a number of young teams from the orbit of the Cologne Game Lab who are undertaking ambitious projects.’

Felix Falk, Managing Director of the BIU: ‘The cooperation at the Transatlantic Gaming Summit is a very good example of the work of our developer network BIU.Dev. We support exchange between developers, both nationally and internationally, and assist German teams in their appearances at trade fairs worldwide. The strong commitment of the Goethe-Institut Boston in the context of PAX East underscores the importance of games as a cultural asset that brings people together.’
