BIU Sales Awards – Strong pre-Christmas sales

Berlin, 7 December 2012. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 (Activision) receives four BIU Sales Awards from BIU, the German Trade Association of Interactive Entertainment Software, and media control GfK INTERNATIONAL at the same time. The modern first-person shooter has recorded sales of more than 100,000 for both the Xbox 360 and PC and receives a BIU Sales Award in gold for each. It earns the BIU Sales Award in platinum for its 200,000 games sold on PlayStation 3. Finally, the newest instalment of the Call of Duty series also claims the Multiplatform Award. The sci-fi shooter Halo 4 by Microsoft receives the BIU Sales Award in gold after having sold more than 100,000 units for the Xbox 360.

Far away from the upheaval caused by futuristic shooters, Assassin’s Creed III from the publishing house Ubisoft has been sold over 200,000 times for PlayStation 3 and more than 100,000 on the Xbox 360, thus entitling it to the BIU Sales Award in platinum and in gold.

Nintendo’s New Super Mario Bros. 2 also receives a BIU Sales Award in platinum on the Nintendo 3DS. A BIU Sales Award in gold goes to Pokémon Black Edition 2 (Nintendo) for Nintendo DS, Zumba Fitness 2 (505 Games LTD.) for the Nintendo Wii and the Farming Simulator 2013 (Astragon Software) for PC.
The BIU Sales Award has honoured the best selling games (full price versions) in the area of interactive entertainment software in Germany since 2008. The basis for the award are the sales figures of boxed games by media control GfK INTERNATIONAL GmbH. The prize is awarded per gaming platform: For the BIU Gold Award a minimum of 100,000, for the BIU Platinum Award at least 200,000 and for the BIU Special Award at least 500,000 games have to be sold on the German market. Furthermore, games which have achieved a total of 500,000 sold units on different platforms are awarded the “BIU Multiplatform Award”.
