The Cloud Imperium Group of companies was founded in 2012 by renowned Wing Commander game creator Chris Roberts and international media attorney Ortwin Freyermuth to develop Star Citizen. Under the leadership of Erin Roberts, Cloud Imperium expanded to Europe in 2013 and assembled a top tier development team to develop Squadron 42, a single player adventure in the Star Citizen universe.
